Biography
- Nioshii- is a lifelong artist who is the daughter, granddaughter, and great granddaughter of artists.
Her early training included studying and working with her father in his New York City studio as he painted
extensive canvases for ecclesiastical murals. The influence of his traditional approach to art
(the result of his studies with the masters in Italy) was augmented by participation in her mother's art
classes in their home, extensive time spent in the museums of New York City, and immersion in the multiplicity
of cultures there.
-Nioshii- has pursued a broad range of artistic disciplines focusing on murals,
oil paintings, silk paintings, mosaics, fabric collage, architectural
woodworking, and art photography. Her "representational abstract"
style reflects her thoughtful, deeply emotional, avant garde outlook
combined with her respect for long standing principles and techniques
of art. The vast majority of her work has centered on unique, challenging
commissions for individuals and municipalities, and on arts education
programs.
Recent career highlights include
an exhibition in New York City and travel to Italy, where in addition to absorbing the art and culture of Rome,
Florence and Venice, -Nioshii- studied mosaic in Ravenna with one of only seven master mosaicists remaining in the
world. Presently, -Nioshii- is focused upon creating collections of original works for exhibit, licensing and limited
edition sales. Her ten piece collection entitled The Relationships Collection, exhibited Autumn 1999, was followed
by the collection, The Faces of My Soul, exhibited Autumn 2000. These collections include works in oils on canvas,
silk paintings, mosaic, and fabric collage. Her next collection, The Social Justice Series, will be exhibited mid-2002.
Additional future plans involve corporate commmissions including installation projects and sizeable paintings for mixed-use development projects, custom murals and mosaics for private collectors, and the 2001 launch of www.nioshii.com. Inspired by a recent brief excursion to Nice, France, -Nioshii- plans further study in Nice, Vence, and Antibes in Autumn 2001.
